Textile Pattern Printing for Beginners

with Printmaker Lisa Feyen from Ink Moth Print Studio

You will be amazed with how easy it is to repurpose op shop fabric finds, adding your own touch of magic to pieces for your home.

You will learn how to design and carve a block, ink it up and print on fabric and paper to create unique contemporary repeat pattern designs. The secret of creating seamless repeat pattern blocks that lock together will be revealed, ideal for pillowcases, aprons, tea towels, tablecloths, napkins, wrapping paper, stationery or even wallpaper.

Part of the day will also be dedicated to experimental printmaking with found objects, just for fun!

All materials and a 100% cotton tea towel will be supplied, but you are encouraged to bring a selection of plain or patterned fabric pieces to practice on. Once you have learned how it all works, you can set up your own print studio at home with minimal equipment required.

After the course you will go home with your own designed and printed tea towel, and a satisfying pile of printed pieces for your sewing projects.

Tools will be available for you to use on the day. You will need to bring:

Sketch book, pencils, eraser
Apron or an old shirt
a few light-coloured, plain or patterned cotton pieces to practice printing on.
Visual inspiration – anything that will help you feel inspired! Eg. From gardening books to magazine cut-outs, fabric swatches, or some of your sketches. Let’s get inky! 🙂
